South African Craft Beer Pub Guide: The Baron

The Baron

The Baron

The Baron has become a staple in great food and beer fair over the last 20 years. With their move into a new generation of restaurants, including the Baron in Sandton, they’re poised to grow that reputation even further.

While still maintaining the pub vibe patrons have come to love through the traditional bar and wine room, they’ve moved in a new direction with the dining space. You’ll now be greeted by modern and contemporary style with its Manhattan grill house layout – perfect for a night on the town.

The menu is extensive. From traditional bar favourites like gourmet burgers and chicken liver starters to the highest quality steaks, there’s something for everybody. And don’t forget to check out the prego rolls!

The beer selection is impressive and includes some of your favourites from Devil’s Peak. If you’re in the mood for something of the grape variety, the wine list is comprehensive and offers some really choice selections in both bottle and glass. The bar is fully stocked – as you’d expect – and the service is top notch.

Our Top 3 Food Picks:

Oxtail – Braised oxtail in red wine and port with garlic, baby onions, and carrots served with mashed potatoes

Steak (Pepper Steak Sauce) – Strong, creamy, black peppper sauce with rich beefy flavour.

Baron’s Platter – Mini beef and chicken shwarmas, haloumi, austrian viennas and crumbed chicken strips served with peri-peri, sweet chili, cheese sauces and chips.

Our Top DPBC Beer and Food Pairing: Baron’s Platter with First Light Golden Ale

Here at Devil’s Peak, we love massive platters of food. There’s nothing better than having a little bit of everything. Apparently, Baron’s agrees. Grab a 500ml of First Light and tuck into this meat and cheese feast. The haloumi goes particularly well with the malty sweetness of our session ale.
