Beer Can Chicken Recipe

A staple of the summer braai, beer can chicken is a crowd-pleaser of note. With the rise of craft in South Africa, you can now turn this straight forward classic into food and beer pairing experience. And what better ales for a blazing day by the pool than First Light Golden Ale and the refreshing, hoppy punch of King’s Blockhouse IPA?

Depending on which Devil’s Peak beer you’d like to try, we’ve recommended some spice rubs below. Check out the video above for cooking tips, and don’t forget to have some cold DPBC on hand to serve with your bird!

Remember, this is beer can chicken, so be sure to empty your preferred ale into the appropriate container.

  • 3 tblsp salt
  • 3 tblsp pepper
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/4 tsp clove powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
