South African Craft Beer Pub Guide: Beerhouse

Each week we profile the best places in South Africa to drink craft beer. This week, we visit the Beerhouse.

Beerhouse has become famous among South Africans for its massive craft beer selection, delicious pub food, and great vibe.

Situated on Long Street, the Cape Town branch opened in 2013 with 16 beers on tap and 99 bottles of beer on the wall. Since then, the beer selection and number of loyal patrons has grown exponentially. So much so, in 2014, owner Randolf Jorberg opened a second branch in Fourways, Johannesburg.

These contemporary and inviting beer halls stock your favourite Devil’s Peak beers, and are often the recipients of specialty and limited edition #DPBC stock.

A favourite watering hole for industry folks, Beerhouse on Long also hosted the first “Meet the Brewers” featuring our very own JC Steyn!

Our Top 3 Food Picks:

Mac n’ Cheese – “Just like mom used to make – creamy and delicious.”

Flammkuchen – “Very crispy beer bread with crème fraiche base – add biltong and blue cheese.”

Ribs – “Chinese style, BBQ, baby back ribs. Fall off the bone tender.”

Our Top DPBC Beer and Food Pairing: Mac n Cheese with the King’s Blockhouse IPA.

Beer and cheese are a great pairing. The rich, decedent flavours of Beerhouse’s Mac n’ Cheese are screaming for a Blockhouse. Our award winning IPA cuts through the richness in a way few others can. Get ready for at least a couple of pints while you carve your way through mountains of creamy goodness.
