How Does Barrel Aging Work?
Often the realm of big, high-alcohol beers, barrel aging has seen a huge growth in popularity since the start of the craft beer revolution in the 1980s. What used to be a small batch specialty only undertaken by the most experienced, hardcore breweries has evolved into “the next big thing” in beer.
As you know, Devil’s Peak has its own barrel aging program and produces several beers in our specialty series that range from saisons to sours. Being one of the pioneers of barrel aging beer in South Africa, we often get asked how the process works and how we achieve such consistent results. Believe us – it’s not easy!
