The Village Idiot
Located on Loop Street in the heart of Cape Town bustling CBD, The Village Idiot is an inner city restaurant and bar that delivers on all fronts.
The interior space is warm and inviting. With the occasional bold splash of attitude (such as the massive ostrich standing on the bar – his name is Oskar), the décor is vintage with a touch of industrial. Exposed bricks, dark wood beams and wine barrels give this space a real personality. Live music and an in-house DJ create a vibe that carries the party long into the night. If you’re looking for a spot to session, then look no further. The Village Idiot ticks all the boxes for a 2am marathon.
The menu, if you exclude the wine list, fits on just one page. We love it. There’s nothing more refreshing than a restaurant that knows what they do well and sticks to it. You’ve got starters, braai boards, sosaties, sides and desserts. From bar snacks to a full on meal, the portions are perfect and the price is right.
The aforementioned wine list includes local reds, whites and bubbles. The bar is fully stocked – all the way to the top shelf. And let’s not forget about the beer. First Light Golden Ale is available on tap along with a few more of your local favourites. Did we mention this is a great spot to session?
