As Durban’s premier spot for craft beer, Unity Brasserie and Bar is the perfect spot to enjoy a pint of craft beer.
“But what exactly is a brasserie?”
We’re glad you asked! A brasserie is restaurant serving alcoholic beverages, especially beer, as well as food. It’s something Unity excels at, but we’ll get to that later.
The décor is casual and comfortable with plenty of seating and bar space. The crowd lively, the music is good, and there’s always a great vibe going. Be sure to check out their Facebook page, as there are often special events that shouldn’t to be missed!
The Unity philosophy is quality, sustainability and taste. That mantra is apparent in every aspect of the restaurant. The food is simple, straightforward and delicious. It won’t break the bank, but it’s obvious they take a lot of pride in what is plated up. Ingredients are local and often bought straight from the surrounding farms, making Unity a very green alternative to many of the surrounding, mainstream options.
Much of the craft beer is also local! You’ll find beer from Cape Town and Durban, and even draft from Unity’s very own, “That Brewing Co.” There’s also a great wine list as well as fully stocked bar.
Arguably, the most unique drink on offer is actually water! DEW Water from Ross Badcock-Walters, is actually water which has been extracted from the humid atmosphere surrounding Durban. Talk about forward thinking and sustainability. A must try.
Our Top 3 Food Picks:
Sliders – Mini blue cheese, Unity chicken, avo and jalapeno burgers
Beer Braised Beef Pie – Served with a drizzling of gravy and chips
Pulled Pork Ciabatta – Served with beer battered onion rings
Our Top DPBC Beer and Food Pairing: Sliders with First Light Golden Ale (when available)
Do you know what goes well with chicken? Session ales. Our favourite session ale, First Light Golden Ale, is the perfect accompaniment to these zesty sliders. Just enough kick that you’ll probably get through a couple of bottles before the meal is through.
