Vasco da Gama
Located off of Alfred Road in Greenpoint, Vasco da Gama is a pub and restaurant that serves some of the most authentic Portuguese food in Cape Town.
A short walk from Cape Quarter and marked with an unassuming red and white sign, this hidden gem offers a genuine tavern experience. The décor says tavern. The tables and bar stools say tavern. The friendly staff, awesome beer selection and great vibe all scream authentic tavern. There’s always some kind of sport playing on the big screens – rugby and cricket being favourites. You can also grab a seat in the spacious courtyard!
Vasco da Gama specialises in Portuguese food. It’s real, honest, no frills and well-priced. They also offer daily specials, so check the menu before you head out! The prego rolls are some of the best we’ve ever had, and espetata is to die for.
The wine list includes some limited stock and end of range offerings. As with any self-respecting tavern, there’s a full bar with about every kind of liquor you can imagine. Top shelf is also on offer. The beer selection includes your mainstream favourites as well as King’s Blockhouse and First Light Golden Ale from #DPBC. Devil’s Peak on tap? You bet!
