Why we brew
Born as a response to the beer culture in South Africa and a desire to share the exciting developments that are taking place in the craft beer realm elsewhere, Devil’s Peak Brewing Company (DPBC) sets out to produce brews unlike any other beer you’re likely to find in South Africa.
An education of the palate, an expansion of the mind
In a blend of modern-traditionalism, retro-progression, we look to the US, the home of the global craft beer explosion, and Belgium, the traditional home of beer, for guidance on styles. Our passion is to create beers with character and depth using exclusively the finest ingredients from around the globe. We produce a wide range of styles and, in the vein of successful microbreweries abroad, we produce both year-round and seasonal styles.
For beer drinkers, it’s a journey of discovery, an appreciation of good beer in all its forms. Many will never have heard of a barrel aged Red Flanders Ale, a dry hopped Saison, a smoked Porter or Wild Ale. Many are still drinking beer from the bottle. We are looking to educate, inspire and ignite all local beer drinkers on all the possibilities and potential of how to enjoy exceptional beer.
What’s in a name?
The name was chosen to firmly root the brand in Cape Town. Devil’s Peak is a geological landmark steeped in myth. It has a strong authenticity and sense of place. It is iconic in the minds of all those who have come to experience it, which is what DPBC strives for.
