Woodhead Amber Ale
Our take on the “Red Ale” of the United States’ Pacific Northwest, the Woodhead Amber Ale is as delicious as it is beautiful. A slightly hoppier finish than is typical of many South African examples which leads to superior sessionability.
Woodhead is the name of one of the five dams built on Table Mountain at the turn of the 20th century to supply water to Cape Town. A landmark and feat worthy of continued recognition.
Moderate hop aroma from late kettle additions of American hop varieties. A citrusy hop character is present. Moderate maltiness balances against the hop presentation and shows a caramel character.
Amber in color. It should have a large off-white head with good retention. Very clear.
Moderate hop flavour from American hop varieties, with a citrusy quality. Malt flavors are moderate and usually show an initial malty sweetness followed by a moderate caramel flavour. Malt and hop bitterness are balanced and mutually supportive.
Medium body. Carbonation moderate. Overall smooth finish.
Like an American pale ale with more body and more caramel richness.
Style: American Amber Ale
